DRE Feature Highlights Q1 2025

In February, Aridhia hosted its Feature Highlights call for DRE customers, drawing attention to recently released features in Workspaces and FAIR Data Services. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights.

FAIR Data Services

Applied Restrictions

Up until now, administrators within Workspaces have been able to apply conditions to an individual workspace’s use. This might include users having to use particular data handling rules, or the data only being used for non-commercial purposes, etc.

As the main use case for restrictions relates to the usage of the data within a workspace, we’ve streamlined the process. Now data owners can apply restrictions directly to datasets in FAIR. Users can review the conditions associated with a particular dataset when browsing in FAIR, and when the data is transferred to a workspace, the associated restrictions will be applied to the target workspace. The next time users try to enter the workspace, they will be prompted to accept the new conditions before access is granted.

User Archiving

The user management system within FAIR has seen an upgrade, making the process of unapproving and archiving existing users much clearer. Admins can now choose to archive users, recording any reasons for doing so, and choosing whether to also archive any of their data access requests or expire their active API tokens. Archived users that try to log in will be shown a message letting them know their account has been deactivated. A new colour-coding system lets administrators and user group owners see at a glance the status of individual users (e.g. which users are archived or not yet approved for access).

Workspaces

New File Upload UI

A new file upload wizard walks users through the process with definitive steps. Dedicated prompts for file destination and upload confirmation are laid out in a new, much more intuitive interface.

Closing the upload wizard on completion can now take you straight to the uploaded files, and a newly introduced visual marker will highlight recently uploaded files.

New Activity List

The Activity tab has received several enhancements within a new user interface. How to filter for highlighted “insight” posts is now much more obvious, and a new toggle allows users to view any remaining unapproved airlock requests in the workspace, so they don’t need to search through the feed for requests they may have been notified of in previous days. Quick and easy direct links to the associated files allow users to find the data they are interested in much faster. New navigation controls also allow a smoother experience when searching through the list of standard posts in your feed.

Bulk Audit Extract

Tenant Administrators could already download the audit logs for workspaces in their hubs, selecting particular date ranges to narrow down their query. This allows TAs to review workspace activity without the need to enter the workspace in question. A newly introduced feature allows them to download the related data across multiple or all workspaces at once: both existing and deleted ones. This will provide a TA with a local csv file that contains all the combined data.

Keep an eye out for further Feature Highlights to come later this year.
